About Kate Mc Grath Communications

It began …

Not on a stage (as one might suspect)

And no, not in a boardroom either.

But in a primary school classroom.

I spent years as a primary teacher, standing at the top of the room while children were asked to read aloud, present to their peers, or simply ask a question. And I began to notice something that stayed with me.

It wasn’t a lack of ability.

It was a lack of confidence.

Bright, capable children shrinking at the sound of their own voice. Words stuck. Shoulders hunched. Eyes down. And quietly, I realised something else, this didn’t stop when they grew up. I saw the same hesitation, the same fear of being heard, in adults working within educational & corporate settings too.

That’s where the seed was planted…

In 2013, I graduated with a higher diploma in Speech & Drama, and Public Speaking.

I could see a gap.

Plenty of people had ideas, expertise and opinions but not the confidence or clarity to express them. So I began working beyond the classroom, supporting children, teenagers and adults to find their voice. To speak with confidence. To be heard without fear.

What started there has now grown into over 13 years of experience in drama, public speaking and mentoring adults. I help people communicate with impact, whether that’s on a stage, in a meeting or in a difficult conversation they’ve been avoiding.

But the work kept evolving…

In 2025, I formally qualified as a mediator, because communication isn’t just about speaking well, it’s about being understood.

I am a registered mediator with the IMI and MII, specialising in workplace and family mediation. I am also a listed mediator with the INTO as part of the Obair le Chéile initiative, with a particular interest in educational workplace mediation.

I support adults to communicate their needs clearly and calmly, helping to improve work relationships and family dynamics. I also help couples navigate separation with greater understanding and respect.

With a background in psychology, I understand what sits beneath the words: the emotions, patterns and unspoken tensions that so often get in the way of resolution.
